What capacity does a hotel dumbwaiter need?
It depends on the duty. A room service lift moving trays and crockery is fine at 50–100 kg. Once you are moving linen trolleys, housekeeping stock or bar deliveries, you want a service lift rated to 150–250 kg. If loads regularly exceed that, the honest answer is a goods lift rather than a dumbwaiter.
How many floors can a hotel dumbwaiter serve?
We install systems serving two to six stops. Each extra stop adds a landing door, structure and controls, so it affects both price and installation time. Beyond six floors a passenger-rated goods lift is usually the better engineering choice.
Can installation be done without disturbing guests?
Largely, yes. Most installations complete in two to four days, and we phase the noisy elements into agreed windows — typically mid-morning after checkout. Dust is contained and corridors are cleaned down at the end of each day.
Do hotel dumbwaiters need LOLER inspections?
Yes, but we do not carry them out. A service lift in a hotel is lifting equipment used at work, so the duty holder — the employer or the organisation or person who owns, operates or has control of the equipment — arranges a thorough examination through a competent person, usually an insurance-appointed examiner. Timing follows that competent person's written scheme of examination, or the applicable statutory intervals where no scheme applies — commonly 12 months for goods-only lifts such as dumbwaiters, or 6 months where equipment lifts people. How quiet are these lifts near guest bedrooms?
Modern electric drives are much quieter than the units they usually replace. Where a shaft runs alongside bedrooms we specify acoustic lining and soft-start controls, and site the motor away from the guest side of the wall. In practice, noise complaints are nearly always worn guides or loose door gear rather than the motor.
